# How GetIntel measures AI visibility

> Which AI engines GetIntel asks and how often, what recommended, mentioned, absent and open mean, and how position and visibility are calculated.

Every number in GetIntel comes from the same raw material: real answers from AI engines to the questions your buyers ask. This page explains how those answers become scores.

## Engines and cadence

| Engine | How often | Plans |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [ChatGPT](/chatgpt-visibility-tracker/) | Daily | All plans |
| [Perplexity](/perplexity-visibility-tracker/) | Daily | All plans |
| [Gemini](/gemini-visibility-tracker/) | Daily | All plans |
| [Google AI Overviews](/ai-overview-tracker/) | Daily | All plans |
| [Claude](/claude-visibility-tracker/) | Weekly (Mondays) | Growth |

The daily scan starts at 9am IST and asks every engine your full set of tracked buyer questions, each one in a fresh, clean session. Brand perception and the technical scan run weekly on their own schedules.

## Answer states

Each answer from each engine is classified into one state for your brand:

| State | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| **Recommended** | You are named, and named first among all the products in the answer. |
| **Mentioned** | You are named, but another product is named before you. |
| **Absent** | The answer names other products but not you. |
| **Open** | The answer names no product at all. A slot nobody holds yet. |
| **No answer** | The engine returned nothing to read: the call failed, or Google showed no AI Overview. It is never counted as absent. |

"Recommended" is about order, not tone: the brand named first is the one a reader sees as the lead suggestion.

Your brand still counts when AI writes its name a little differently, such as a shortened name, different spacing or a different spelling.

## Position

When you are named, **position** is where you appear among every product the answer names, counting from 1. An average position of 1.4 means you are usually named first or second.

## Visibility

**Visibility** is how often AI names you. For each buyer question GetIntel works out the share of answers that named you (recommended or mentioned), then averages across questions, so a question asked many times does not outweigh the rest.

- **Topic scores** use a rolling 7-day window.
- **Home** shows the period you pick (7 days by default), and its daily chart plots each day's own answers.
- **Share of voice** is your mentions divided by all brand mentions in the same answers.
- **Citations** is the share of answers that link to your own site.

## Head-to-heads and win rate

Separately from buyer questions, GetIntel asks each engine daily to choose between you and a named rival. **Win rate** is how often it picks you. Answers that refuse to pick a side count for neither.
