Why it matters

What a checker like this can and can't tell you

Structure is checkable, citation impact isn't, at least not from a file alone. This tool validates the shape of the file: title, summary, sections, links, HTTPS, length. It can't tell you whether ChatGPT or Claude will actually cite you more because of it.

Worth being direct about: our own testing across the 50 most-cited domains in our corpus found no measurable citation effect from having an llms.txt file versus not having one. That doesn't mean skip it, a well-structured file is still low-effort and can't hurt, but don't expect it to move citations on its own the way genuinely citable content does.

No. This checker validates whatever text you paste in, it doesn't fetch a URL. Browsers block a page on getintel.ai from directly reading a file hosted on your domain (the same cross-origin restriction that stops any site from silently reading another site's pages). Open yourdomain.com/llms.txt in a new tab, copy its contents, and paste them in above.

Structure, not content quality: whether the file opens with a title, has a one-line summary, uses section headings, includes markdown links to key pages, uses HTTPS URLs, and keeps a reasonable length. It cannot judge whether your descriptions are accurate or persuasive, that part is still on you.

llms.txt is a community convention, not a formal W3C or IETF standard, so there's no single canonical validator. This checker applies the structural conventions used across the published examples and the generator format on this site: title, summary, sectioned headings, and linked key pages.
