Position
How GetIntel measures where your brand appears among the products an answer names, how average position is calculated, and what moves it.
Position is where you appear among the products an answer names, counting from 1. Position 1 is the same as the recommended state.
How it’s calculated
Section titled “How it’s calculated”GetIntel orders every product in an answer by where it first appears. Your position is your place in that order. Position only exists when you are named; absent and open answers have none.
Average position is the mean across the answers that named you.
Worked example. You are named in four answers, at positions 1, 2, 1 and 4. Average position = (1 + 2 + 1 + 4) ÷ 4 = 2.0.
Position versus the neighbouring metrics
Section titled “Position versus the neighbouring metrics”- Visibility tells you how often you are named; position tells you how prominently. A brand named rarely but always first has low visibility and a great position.
- Lower is better. An average of 1.3 beats 2.5.
- Looker Studio calls this Average Citation Rank. It is the same measure: your place among the brands named.
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”- Home: the Position tab.
- Competitors: Avg position for every brand.
- Prompts: your average position alongside visibility, and each answer’s position.
What moves it
Section titled “What moves it”Answers tend to lead with the product that the sources they rely on present as the default choice. Being the clear, specific answer on those sources, and on your own comparison pages, moves you up the list.
