Get cited through Reddit

Reddit is one of the sources AI engines cite most when buyers ask for recommendations. A helpful reply in the right thread can reach the answers your buyers read, often without publishing anything new.

Why Reddit shapes AI answers

• Engines trust it. Community threads read as real experience, so engines cite them for comparisons and recommendations.
• Threads last. A well-received thread can keep being cited for months.
• It ranks in Google too, so the same reply reaches search as well as AI answers.
• It tells you what buyers care about. The problems and tools people name are free research for your pages and positioning.

Step 1 — Find the threads that shape answers

Open Reddit. Threads are grouped by your topics. Look for the AI cites badge, and hover it to see how many answers cite the thread.

Prioritize: threads AI cites for your most important topics, especially where the Weekly summary shows rivals in Tools people named and You not mentioned. Those are the clearest gaps.

You can also open Sources, filter the type to UGC, and sort by Cited in to see Reddit threads alongside other community sources.

Step 2 — Read before you reply

For each thread, read the whole conversation, not just the first post. Then read the topic’s Weekly summary: Problems people raised tells you what people are really stuck on.

Step 3 — Reply the way that works

1. Answer the question first. Explain how to solve the problem, including options that aren’t you.
2. Be specific. Concrete details (who it suits, what it costs, what it doesn’t do) make a reply useful, upvoted and quotable.
3. Mention your product only if it genuinely helps. A brand name in a well-received reply is enough; a link isn’t required.
4. Say that you work on it. Honest disclosure keeps the reply credible and within most subreddits’ rules.

Caution

Quality beats volume. Promotional replies get downvoted or removed quickly, and never become citations. Don’t use fake accounts or copy-paste the same reply across threads.

Step 4 — Get in early

The best time to join a thread is soon after it’s posted. A thread that is still forming is easy to help shape; one with hundreds of comments is not.

Step 5 — Work your UGC tasks

Your UGC tasks under Actions rank the Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn opportunities most likely to move your topics. Add one or two to each week’s plan.

Step 6 — Measure

• Weekly summaries: are you starting to appear in Tools people named, and is You mentioned?
• Topics: are the topics you engaged on moving?
• Sources: are the threads you joined still cited, and do they now name you?

Helpful replies can show in answers within days to a couple of weeks. Broader movement in topic scores usually takes a few weeks to a month.

Reddit is a live feedback loop. Questions that come up again and again are content you should publish, and complaints about rivals are positioning you can use.
